Have You Ever Shared Your Lunch With Crows?

What you are about to read is last night’s conversation between me, Jia (my wife) and Uzair (my son):

Me: Hey kiddo, what was your lunch for school today?

Jia: I gave him two fried chicken sticks but he didn’t ate it up.

Me: Uzair, why didn’t you ate them?

Uzair: I shared my lunch with hungry crows!

Me: Huh, what?

Jia: Yes, he just ate a bite or two of his lunch and threw away the rest outside his classroom to the crows.

Me: You gave your lunch to the crows??

Uzair: Baba, they were hungry because eagles don’t let them eat properly. They asked me to give them something to eat, so I shared my lunch with them. They happily ate it and also said thanks.

Me: Jia, how in the world he got out of his classroom to throw away his lunch in front of crows?

Jia: The play area is easy accessible from his classroom and during the lunch break, he probably got out.

Me: Uzair, why you did this?

Uzair: Crows were really hungry, Baba and I saw how eagles don’t let them eat properly as they eat up all the food by themselves and they don’t leave anything for crows. So, I shared my lunch with crows today.

Jia: Uzair, this better not happen tomorrow.

Me: Yes, lunch you take to school everyday is for you. You can share it up with your classmates but not with crows.

Uzair: But they were hungry and they eat it up quickly and they even said thanks to me.

Me: Son, we will feed something else to the hungry crows but that can only happen at the home and during the weekend only, when I’m around. Okay?

Uzair: Okay Baba.

Later, Uzair repeated the whole story again in front of other family members and they had a good laugh. Uzair kept on insisting that he will do the same again tomorrow, despite mine and Jia’s dislike. And now, I’m having this strong feeling that I may have to buy a new lunch box for Uzair’s new lunch-mates.

I’m still wondering about why he did so. The only reason I can come up with is that observation power of today’s children is may not what we expect it to be. Whatever happens with them or around them shapes up their little minds and they react accordingly. What they do may seem a normal behavior but sometimes, like this one, we may see them do things which may baffle us like how in the world did they can thought about this.

Well, that’s what Uzair did as he shared his lunch with bunch of crows in school yesterday.
