A Photo A Week Challenge – Over 100 Years Old

No denying about old being gold but sadly, not everyone believes in it!

Because in today’s fast changing world, clinging onto the objects of yesterday is considered as an absurd behaviour by many.

Hence, what once was the center piece, is now an object of past and neglect. Many structures around my city Karachi, are sadly decaying away. They were created in mid or late 19th century when British Raj was in power in the region.

Despite facing harshness of time and neglection by citizens of the city in recent decades, several structures are still standing on their grounds for more than 100 years or so. Thanks to several campigns and awareness programs, local city and provincial governments, with help from private sector as well, are taking steps to ensure the safeguard of historic monuments around the city, which is a very good thing.

I haven’t captured much snaps of such monuments in the city but there’s a blogger I know who has probably explored Karachi more than anyone else I know!

Farooq Soomro, aka The Karachi Walla, is extensively photographing and documenting the hidden gems of Karachi’s past on his website for so long. On his blog, I found out about so many places of Karachi that made me wonder whether he and I are living in the same city or not.

For this week’s A Photo a Week Challenge: Over 100 Years Old by Nancy Merrill, I’m sharing six different posts from The Karachi Walla’s blog about six unique and historical places of Karachi,

These posts not only provide an amazing glimpse about Karachi’s past but also about the the wonderful architectural work still standing tall, even after 100 years!
