Once upon a dark, stormy night….
The sky was electrifying.
So I gathered up my guts and headed over to the rooftop at my home, to capture this:
A year ago, on 27th August 2020, torrential rain lashed over my city Karachi, causing widespread flooding, shattering a 89-year-old record for the city,
I was at home with my family that day and we all enjoyed the first few hours of non-stop rain since this was happening after a long time. Thankfully, my block didn’t fell a victim of urban flooding, which happened in several posh areas of the city that day.
The heavy showering finally stopped after 7pm but the light rainfall continued. After 8pm, when electricity was still out, I noticed lightning outside.
There was no thundering at all but the lightning continued, which prompted me to go out for some creative work on a dark, stormy night.
I was a bit scared when I reached the rooftop but I was more excited to seeing the lightning on a dark sky.
I used my smartphone to made this video, which isn’t powerful enough to capture photos of fast moving objects like lightning, so that’s why I opted for making a video.
Strangely, this year’s monsoon season hadn’t brought heavy showering like last year, which made think to celebrate an occasion of a year old event on my blog 🙂
I’m sure you will like it!

A great little video, Hammad. The perfect way to share that scary storm.
I’ve got a much safer sky this week: https://hammadrais.blog/2021/08/28/weekend-sky-39-aug-28th/

Great captures of the lightning! This evening we had very low clouds and turned dark grey and we heard some thunder, but it didn’t last very long. 🙂

Thank you very much for liking the video.
Sounds like the weather over my town this monsoon except for the thundering part.

Good morning from India.
Beautiful capture of lightening!
Visual treat indeed!
Sometimes it’s scary too….since we read in news that mobile battery exploded because of lightening and caused injuries.
No idea.
Are these news information correct?
Any scientific explanations?
I don’t know.

As far as my limited scientific knowledge goes, there’s no such truth in this.
The exploding of mobile phones batteries have nothing to do with lightning, I’m sure.
Otherwise, I would been using a new phone right now 🙂

A good phone video Hammad. I hope your lack of Monsoon forest’s mean a hot dry Summer for me. 🙂

It’s been far too dry here in Maroubra, I would like a summer with a drizzle.

Yes, I’m also longing for some drizzling 🙂

Thank you very much for liking the video, Brian.
Despite no rainfall this monsoon, the summer was, and is, mostly pleasant. Which I’m hoping will continue 🙂
