My Special Gal

When my sister got married in 2015, it was an emotional moment. Well, not just one or two moments I’m talking about here. Ever since my mother started to plan her wedding and talked with me about it, I got emotional.

You see, my sister is a very special person in my life. She is my special gal!

Whenever mom talked about her marriage, it made me emotional because of many reasons. Some known, some unknown.

My sister is the youngest and the only sister among her sibling. Therefore, treating her specially was something I can still do in the blink of an eye. I smile every time when I recall her childhood days. She never wore girls clothing at all till she stepped in 5th grade. Doing all those things her elder brothers did was her right in our home. Well, except for few things, you know!

Both of us care for each other on so many levels I can’t even count them up. I saw her growing up, from a little girl, who cried every time when mother forced her to wear a girl’s outfit. Scoring good grades, making friends, getting a job and so much more. Eventually, she grew up but for me, she was and still is my little butterfly.

In 2013, she got engaged and I cried. In 2015, she got married and I cried more.

Between the time of her engagement and marriage, not a day went by when I didn’t thought about her. I know she also cried although she did such a damn good job in holding up her tears.

On her wedding day, when he sat down in our drawing room, fully dressed as a bride, I was unable to top my tears as I also saw a little girl crying on top of her lungs for being forced to wear a girl’s outfit by her mother. Spotting my tears, she warned me that beautician’s hard work on her will go to waste, if I continue crying.

Going away from their families for the rest of their lives is still hard for most Pakistani girls & my sister is no exception. In October 2015, my little butterfly flew away from our home but not from my heart, not from my family’s heart. My heart is her home for as long as it beats.

This 100th post of my blog is dedicated to my sister Samrah, who is living a happily married life. She was blessed by a beautiful daughter in August 2015. The pictures above were taken on the day of her Rasm-e-Heena ceremony. A wooden bed was decorated up with marigold flowers for the occasion, which is common practice here in Pakistan.

A very beautiful blog full of emotion that we can touch and feel, and very delicately delineated. Love it.
